வெளிப்பட்ட தீவிரவாதத்தின் கோ(ர)ழை முகம்

பாகிஸ்தானின் ஸ்வாட் பள்ளத்தாக்கிலுள்ள மிங்கோரா நகரின் பள்ளியிருந்து மாணவிகள் வீட்டுக்குத் திரும்ப பேருந்தில் காத்திருக்கொண்டிருக்கையில், தாடி வைத்த ஒரு ஆசாமி வந்து ”உங்களில் யார் மலாலா” என்கிறான்? மலாலாவைப் பெண்கள் காட்ட அதை நம்பாமல் மலாலாவோடு சேர்த்து உடனிருந்த மற்ற இரு மாணவிகளையும் சுட்டுவிட்டு தப்புகின்றான். நெற்றியிலும் கழுத்திலும் தோட்டாவைச் சுமக்கும் மலாலா உயிருடன் திரும்பவேண்டி இன்று ஒட்டுமொத்த பாகிஸ்தானும் கண்ணீருடன் வேண்டிக்கிடக்கிறது. 

பதினான்கே ஆண்டுகள் நிரம்பிய ”மலாலா யூசுப்சாய்” என்னும் அச்சிறுமியைத் தீவிரவாதிகள் சுடக் காரணம் பெண்குழந்தைகள் கல்விக்காக அவள் போராடியதும், ஸ்வாட் பள்ளத்தாக்கில் தலிபான்களின் வெறிச்செயல்களை எதிர்த்து அமைதியாய்ப் புரட்சி செய்ததும்தான்.

”பாகிஸ்தானின் சுவிட்சர்லந்து” என்ற பட்டப்பெயரை உடையது சுற்றுலாவிற்குப் பெயர்பெற்ற ஸ்வாட் பள்ளத்தாக்கு. ஆனால் தலிபான்கள் கட்டுப்பாட்டில் வந்த நாளிலிருந்து அமைதியைக் காண்பதே விந்தையாகிப் போனது. ஆண்கள் அனைவரும் மதவழக்கப்படி தாடி வளர்க்க வேண்டும், பெண்கள் யாரும் பள்ளிக்குச் செல்லக் கூடாது, மாலை நேரத்துக்கு மேல் வெளியில் நடமாடக் கூடாது, டிவி பார்க்க, இசை கேட்கக் கூடத் தடை. மீறி நடப்பவர்களின் தலை துண்டாக்கி உடல் வீதியில் வீசப்படும்.

2009ம் ஆண்டில் தலிபான்களின் ஆட்சி உச்சத்தில் இருந்தபோது பிபிசி-இன் உருது பிரிவிற்காக ஸ்வாட் பள்ளத்தாக்கின் அவலங்களைத் தோலுரித்துப் புனைப்பெயரில் வலைப்பதிவு எழுதிய போது மலாலா யூசுப்சாயின் அகவை வெறும் பதினொன்று! 2011 இல் பாகிஸ்தான் அரசுப்படைகளால் ஸ்வாட் பள்ளத்தாக்கில் தலிபான்கள் ஆட்சி ஒழிக்கப்பட்ட பிறகு, மலாலா பெண்கல்வியின் இன்றியமையாமையை வலியுறுத்தி தீவிரமாகக் குரல் கொடுக்கத் தொடங்கினாள். மலாலாவின் அயராத உழைப்பைப் பல்வேறு பன்னாட்டு நிறுவங்கள் பாராட்டி விருது தந்தன. ”பன்னாட்டுக் குழந்தைகள் அமைதி விருதிற்கு” மலாலாவின் பரிந்துரை செய்யப்பட்டது. யுனிசெஃப் அமைப்பின் சார்பாக உரையாற்றவும் செய்தாள். மலாலாவின் தந்தை மகளிர்க்கான பள்ளியை நடத்தி வருபவர்.

பிற்போக்கில் ஊறிப்போன தலிபான்களுக்கு இதுவெல்லாம் எரிச்சலை உண்டாக்கியது. கடந்த ஓராண்டாக தக்க நேரத்திற்குக் காத்திருந்து இந்த தாக்குதலை நிகழ்த்தியுள்ளனர். மலாலாவின் செயல்கள் மேற்கத்திய அசிங்கங்களைப் பரப்பும் முயற்சி என்றும், அவளைக் கண்டிப்பாகக் கொன்று முடிப்போம் என்றும் தாக்குதலுக்குப் பொறுப்பேற்றுள்ள தெஹ்ரீக்-இ-தலிபான் (T-e-T) அமைப்பு தெரிவித்துள்ளது.

”ஓர் அப்பாவியை உயிரைக் கொல்ல எத்தனிப்பது ஒட்டுமொத்த மனித இனத்தையே கொல்ல முயல்வதற்கு ஒப்பானதென்றுதான் இஸ்லாம் கூறுகிறது”… என்று கூறி பாகிஸ்தானில் ஐம்பதுக்கும் மேற்பட்ட சுன்னி முஸ்லிம் மதகுருக்கள் அத்தீவிரவாதிகளைக் கண்டித்து ”ஃபத்வா” அளித்துள்ளனர்.

பாகிஸ்தான் மற்றும் அனைத்து உலகத் தலைவர்களும் இக்கோழைத்தாக்குதலைக் கண்டித்த வண்ணம் உள்ளனர். தற்போது மலாலா மிங்கோராவில் இருந்து பெஷாவர் மருத்துவமனைக்கு வானூர்தி மூலம் கொண்டு செல்லப்பட்டுத் தீவிர கண்காணிப்பில் வைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளாள். தேவைப்பட்டால் வெளிநாட்டுக்கும் அழைத்துச் செல்லப்படும் என்று கூறப்பட்டுள்ளது. கடந்த வெள்ளிக்கிழமை நாடெங்கும் இத்தாக்குதலுக்குக் கண்டனம் தெரிவிக்கும் நாளாக அனுசரிக்கப்பட்டது. குண்டு பாய்ந்த காயங்களோடு மலாலா ஸ்ட்ரெச்சரில் கொண்டு செல்லப் படுவதை தொலைக்காட்சியில் பார்த்து பார்த்துக் கண்ணீர் வடிக்கும் அந்நாட்டு மக்களுக்கு, “உயிர் பிழைத்து வந்து மலாலா திரும்பவும் போராடுவாள்” என்ற மருத்துவர்களின் நம்பிக்கை சொற்கள் மட்டுமே ஆறுதல்…

“தலிபான்கள் பலமுறை மிரட்டிய போதும் அஞ்சாமல் பாதுகாப்பைக் கூட வேண்டாமென்று மறுத்துப் போராடியவள் என் மகள். அவளுக்கு வளர்ந்த பின் அரசியலில் நுழைய வேண்டும் என்றுதான் ஆசை” என்கிறார் மலாலாவின் தந்தை. நாளும் குண்டு வெடிக்கும் போர்க்கள பூமியில் இந்த புரட்சிப்பூ மாற்றம் கொணர்ந்து சாதிக்கும் என நாமும் நம்புவோம்.

இதே வேளையில் நமது ஹரியானா மாநிலத்தில் கடந்த ஒரு மாதத்தில் பதினான்கு சிறுமிகள் வன்புணர்ச்சிக்குள்ளாக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார்கள். இது குறித்து காப் பஞ்சாயத்தினர் கூறியது என்ன தெரியுமா?? ”பெண்களுக்கு இளம் வயதிலேயே திருமணத்தை முடித்துவிட்டால் இவ்வாறெல்லாம் நடக்காது. அரசாங்கம் பெண்களுக்கான திருமண வயதைத் தளர்த்த வேண்டும்!”

பாகிஸ்தானுக்கு மட்டுமன்று இந்தியாவிற்கும் இன்று தேவைப்படுகிறாள் ஓர் மலாலா!

11^th September 2012 was day of ‘Aakkam 2012’. This was the day when the campaign would be officially inaugurated. At around 12:30 p.m all the students of the Department of Journalism gathered in the Theatre to be a part of the inaugural ceremony. For the inaugural ceremony we had a Chief Guest and 2 Guest’s of Honour. The Chief Guest was Mr. Mohan Kumar, a Joint Director in the Textiles Industry. The Guest’s of Honour were Ms. V. R Devika the founder of ASEEMA trust and Mr. Muniswamy, a potter of acclaimed repute from Pondicherry. The function started off with a few introductions of the guest’s after which the guest’s came forward to light the lamp and then moved on to the various talks given by the guests. While Mr. Mohan enlightened us on what the government was doing for the artisans, Ms. Devika’s session was filled with enthusiasm and panache. Ms. Devika spoke about her background and gave us insights into what she did. She also mentioned a very interesting fact that she wears only handloomed sarees and that when she goes abroad, she moves around a place only in those sarees. She was an inspirational figure to all us. She also got everyone off their seats and I mean literally when she showcase some spinning expertise using a miniature Charka. In all it was a very amusing and entertaining session when it came to Ms. Devika. After Ms. Devika, Mr. Muniswamy was up next. He had already brought us a video of himself to be shown and the video left the audience spell bound and in awe of this man. We salute artisans like him who have worked very hard for their craft, despite all the problems they’ve faced. He explained to us his art, the nuances involved with it, the inspiration behind why he does pottery for a living, the numerous national and international awards he has received and his general view on the topic. Soon after the inaugural session concluded with the guest’s being presented with hand-made memento’s by our classmates and everyone dispersed for lunch.

After lunch everyone came back for a panel discussion which involved Mr. Muniswamy and an expert from the field. The discussion was informative and it brought out many interesting information and ideas to the table. The expert and the artisan spoke about the future of craft in our nation and they spoke in detail about what has happened, what is happening and what should happen. Mr. Muniswamy also spoke about various schemes he saw in Thailand when he had traveled to that part of the World. Overall the information was enlightening and it was followed up by a Q & A session. With that we wrapped up all the sessions of Day 2.

Another highlight of Day 2 were the stalls outside the Department. We had 3 stalls exhibiting handicrafts and it was quite a success with a large bunch of students thronging to make purchases. One stall sold knick nacks and bags, another one exclusively sold jhola’s and other such bags and the last stall sold bangles, earrings and anklets. The women students were elated and you could see that the stalls were doing good business. In an effort to use hand made products we also kept water outside in clay pots. Yet another move to become eco-friendly and a step towards helping the artisans.

On day 3 we all have decided to ‘Go Swadeshi’ and will be seen moving around the campus in Khadi Kurta’s.

முன்னனிஆங்கில நாளேடான தி இந்துவின் முதன்மை ஆசிரியராய் திரு. சித்தார்த் வரதராஜன் கஸ்தூரி & சன்ஸ் குழுமத்தில் எழுந்த கடும் எதிர்ப்பையும் மீறி என். இராமின் இடத்தில் நியமிக்கப்பட்டார். கஸ்தூரி & சன்ஸ் குடும்பத்தினரே இதுவரை அப்பதவியில் இருந்து வந்தனர் என்பது இங்கு குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது.

ஆனால் தற்போது ஜனதா கட்சியின் தலைவரான சுப்ரமணியன் சுவாமி இந்திய பிரஸ் ரிஜிஸ்ட்ராருக்கு எழுதியுள்ள கடிதத்தில் “அமெரிக்க குடியுரிமை கொண்டவரும், இந்தியரல்லாதவருமான சித்தார்த் வரதராஜன் ஓர் இந்திய செய்தி நாளேட்டின் ஆசிரியராக செயல்படுவது இந்திய அரசியலமைப்புச் சட்டத்துக்கெதிரானது” என்று கூறியுள்ளார். மேலும் அவரை இந்து நாளேட்டுக்கு ஆசிரியராக செயல்படுவதிலிருந்து தடை செய்ய வேண்டுமென்றும் கூறியுள்ளார்.

Ignoring a Burning Issue

Stitching in his shop located at Lucky Plaza, thirty five year old Subramanian finds that his day is quite early done. Once a very busy man with about 6 to 7 workers under him, Subramanian is now straining to find work His rented shop in Lucky Plaza has descended from the high class air conditioned atmos­phere, to being charred and cracked by the fire accident of September 1, 2008.

“We do not receive customers as we used to, before the fire. Those days, we earned about 3000 to 5000 a day. But now, we receive only about 400 to 500 per day,” said Subramanian.

The catastrophic fire of 2008 has destroyed about 24 of the 48 shops in the first two floors of ‘Lucky Plaza,’ a famous tailoring complex situated in Ranganathan Street, T.Nagar. The accident caused damages estimated to several lakhs of rupees and claimed two lives.

But despite this devastating incident which took place three years ago, shocking is the fact that even today, none of the multiplexes in Ranganathan Street are approved by the fire and rescue services department for adequate fire safety. This revelation comes in response to an RTI query to the fire and rescue services department, seeking information regarding the safety precautions and authorization of shops in the area.

Though several shops claim to have fire cyl­inders at store in case of a fire break out, the ironical fact is that very few of them know how to use the particular safety measure. “We do not know how to use the cylinder,” was the response given by the workers of these shops. Also, these fire cylinders can only stop the fire at early stages, and thus, in case of a major fire break out, essential preventive measures such as a sprinkler system is absent.

The very fact that almost all the shops in Ran­ganathan Street that have wide and sprawling show rooms, but have only a single exit sys­tem, is baffling. “We find it very difficult to move through the place on a normal day. The situation in case of a fire break out is some­thing unimaginable,” says Ragahvan, a regu­lar shopper from one of the leading shops. “In case of another fire break out in the wee hours, a stampede is something guaranteed to occur,” he says.

The crammed ally way that Ranganathan Street has turned out to be, is also another ma­jor cause of concern as the fire engines would find it tough to enter the premise in case of an­other fire break out. This trouble was already brought into focus in the previous fire that occurred early in the morning. But despite all this to be considered, the authorities are yet to take any move regarding the issue. Respond­ing to the lack of fire security in Ranganathan Street, an official source from the Fire and Rescue Services department said “We do not have any authority to demolish any buildings. We just have the certifying authority. It is the CMDA who is supposed to take action.”

West Tambaram in an urgent need of Upgraded Bus Terminus

Tambaram – the ever busy suburb is the entrance for the Chennai city to the south people. A recent survey states that Tambaram handles 1.5 lakh people every day. All the trains leading towards south are paasing via Tambaram Railway Station which is the third largest after Central and Ezhumbur.  The Tambaram Bus Stand is the second largest (after CMBT) bus terminus of Chennai by operating both Moffusil and Metropolitan bus services. But the current bus stand is not enough to handle this much people. 

Tambaram really needs a ‘Bus Terminus’ with better features and wider space. That is the reason why it has been mentioned above the present one as ‘Bus stand’. Currently it just has a shelter roof by the side of GST (Grand Southern Trunk) Road in the name of a terminus. There is neither restroom nor even a place to sit for the passengers. Perumal, a regular commuter from Tambaram to Guindy says “Though this place has a heavy density of people I can’t see any improvements. It stinks always due to the garbage overflow in ditches. The Time-keepers are not responding properly.”

Tambaram has services to places like Saidapettai, Broadway, Ambattur, Thiruvanmiyur etc… to connect with any place of Chennai. It also has a branch of SETC (State Export Transport Corporation) to deal with the services for southern districts. On the other hand it doesn’t even have public toilets so that the public releasing the internal forces (thrust) of their body anywhere. “People don’t having any other option than doing that. Think about the women without lavatory in the Bus stand. This place at least requires a bin to crush the plastic and paper wastes. How much a trashcan will cost? The government is not even able to provide these fundamental things but freebies like TVs & Laptop computers”, said by an annoyed public.

Vetri, who is running a bakery, says the misery of the bus stand ironically “Mr. Common can’t find any taps to solve his thirst in Tambaram. Thereby he is forced to buy water; mostly impure water packets and throwing the partially finished covers somewhere to give some surprise drizzling for his fellow compatriot. Despite having a Subway, people used to jump to the other side of road with exquisite athletic touch. I am not sure whether they are doing it to prove that the Olympics medal dream is not far away. Fascinated by their on-screen heroes they also release rings of smoke in public. I think the Policemen who are responsible to punish or fine these Romeos have taken resolution to be public friendly and therefore sticking to their principle – “Kaavalthurai ungal Nanban”.  

To get a bus to Kanchipuram, passengers have to walk almost a kilometre with luggage to the other extreme of the Bus stand. So the old-aged passengers with heavy bags are forced to hire autos of high cost. The shopkeepers here have hidden the walking pavement entirely. No authorities seem like taking action on these incidents. Tourists from other states and nations really having a tough time here to get the information they need. When citizens of Chennai who have been born and brought up here are not able to have a clear idea about the MTC (Metropolitan Transport Corporation) routes, how one can expect a foreigner who has never been here to travel without assistance?

Government is constructing a big terminus in Tambaram Sanatorium to provide a relief for the above mentioned fiascos. But it is under construction since the Stone Age period. The Municipality officials like junior engineer assures it will get complete soon and they are doing their best. All the public needs to know is when it will get complete?
